...I totally agree with you this is an offensive program which misses
the mark. This Legislation was another attempt to fix a problem we read
about in other states or possibly in Southern Maine. Many well intended
Legislators over react without thinking about the ramifications of their
actions. Instead of listening to the MEA we should have listened to the
teachers but when the MEA speaks for people without asking them this
becomes the result. Cathcart is right, as a member of the Democrat
majority on the Appropriations Committee she could have funded the cost
last year.
This summer Republican Senator Betty Lou Mitchell proposed a bill, which passed the
Legislative Council and will come to the Legislature for funding the cost
to teachers and support staff. Also the House Republican Leader Rep. Tom
Murphy offered an Order to the House to revisit the whole issue.
Sometimes some Legislators tell you only what they want you to
know. We will continue to work to defend the
rights and dignity of teachers. Thanks
