Child Protection Versus Individual Liberty

The subject of the forum will be the attempt to balance children's safety
with the right to privacy and respect for professional integrity on the
part of school employees, especially teachers. In addition to the current
issue of fingerprinting of teachers, Charles March will discuss drug
testing and the detection of child abuse. He will review pertinent legal
history and legislation plus the experience of other states.
Charles March is a lawyer, based in Portland, who works in the areas of
civil rights and the rights of employees. He is a former union organizer
and an advocate for children's needs in the community. He also deals with
the social and legal problems of refugees.
