Dear Don,
Thank you for your web site. Not only do I oppose this
legislation, I have an amendment that was drawn up weeks ago to repeal
this law. I introduced a bill to repeal this law, and the legislative
council was going to table it, and I convinced them the teachers, bus
drivers, cafeteria workers and all school personnel should have their
say in this matter. I also testified at the public hearing, and am ready
to take this debate to the floor of the house. The information we received
at the Democratic Caucus was one sided, and not all the facts were given.
This bill will not accomplish what it was intended to do. The numbers just
do not suggest this is a problem in Maine. Parents and family members are
the people who abuse children, not teachers. We are fighting for dollars as
I write this letter, and yet we are willing to spend money on fear and
misinformation.
